HOW DO I APPLY FOR AN INTERNAL TRAVEL DOCUMENT ?

Application can be made by submitting the following documents to any Immigration Department of Malaysia :

  • Form G - IM. 90
  • 2 photograph of applicant measuring 3.5cm x 5.0cm
  • Old passport (if any)
  • Payment of RM$5.00
  • Identity card for applicant 12 years and above
  • Birth certificate for applicant below 12 years.

An internal travel document is only valid for 5 years from the date of issue and can be renewed.

HOW DO I RENEW MY INTERNAL TRAVEL DOCUMENT ?

Application for renewal of your internal travel document can be made at the Immigration Department of Malaysia and not earlier than 6 months before the end of the 5 years from the date of issue.

Your application must be submitted with the following documents :

  • Form IM. 90
  • Payment of RM$1.00 per year
  • Restricted travel document
  • Identity card for applicant 12 years and above
  • Birth certificate for applicant below 12 years.
ARE THEY ALTERNATIVE TO USING INTERNAL TRAVEL DOCUMENT TO TRAVEL TO SABAH AND SARAWAK FOR WEST MALAYSIAN ?

Yes.

Any citizen of Malaysia entering Sabah or Sarawak on a direct journey from West Malaysia shall be exempted from the requirement to produce internal travel document when entering Sabah or Sarawak with the use of "Document In Lieu Of Internal Travel Document".

This is an alternative to using the internal travel document.
