DOES A CITIZEN OF MALAYSIA NEED A PASS OR TRAVEL DOCUMENT TO ENTER SABAH FROM FEDERAL TERRITORY LABUAN ?

Every citizen of Malaysia entering Sabah on a direct journey from the Federal Territory Labuan shall be exempted from the requirement of obtaining a permit, pass or internal travel document.

However, such person must on his or her entry into Sabah produces for examination to an immigration officer his or her identity card.

Where a person is not a citizen of Malaysia, but issued a red identity card under the National Registration (Sabah) Regulations 1972, such person will also be exempted from the requirements of obtaining a permit, pass or internal travel document when entering Sabah on a direct journey from the Federal Territory Labuan, if on his or her entry into Sabah, produces for examination to an immigration officer his or her identity card.

DOES A CITIZEN OF SABAH OR SARAWAK NEED A PASS OR TRAVEL DOCUMENT FOR TRAVELING BETWEEN SABAH AND SARAWAK ?

A citizen of Sabah or Sarawak entering or leaving Sabah or Sarawak, as the case may be, on a direct journey from or to any other place in Malaysia who complies with the following shall be exempted from the requirements to produce to the immigration officer either an internal travel document or the like passport or internal travel document :

  • on leaving or entering Sabah or Sarawak, as the case may be, duly fill in duplicate and produce to an immigration officer at the point of entry in Sabah or Sarawak the Document In Lieu Of An Internal Travel Document IMM. 116 and
  • produce to an immigration officer a the point of entry into and exit from Sabah or Sarawak the same document

However, citizen of Sabah residing in the district of Sipitang in Sabah, entering Sarawak by land shall be exempted from the requirements.

The document is only valid for a single journey and the holder is entitled to enter and remain in Sabah or Sarawak on a social or business visit not exceeding 3 months.

No payment is needed but the applicant is required to produce an identity card or police or army identity card or birth certificate or adoption certificate for applicant below 12 years.
